The Laboratory of Physics of Materials and Surfaces (LFMS – Laboratorio di Fisica dei materiali e delle Superfici) and related research group (GFMS) of the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” is dedicated to the investigation of the optical and electronic properties of surfaces, interfaces and thin films. It includes facilities for film growth by Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) in ultra-high-vacuum.

Main techniques and methods

Photoemission (UPS, XPS, angle resolved), Auger spectroscopy, Electron Energy Loss spectroscopy (EELS), Metastable deexcitation spectroscopy, MBE growth of organic and inorganic materials, Luminescence, Vis-UV absorption and reflectivity, quantum yield.
